Step 1: Confirm the Part Number and the Physical Location—Immediately

Before you call anyone or search for inventory, stop and do two things. First, get the exact part number. Not the machine's serial number; the specific part number for the crusher, screen, or plant component you need. Second, confirm exactly where the part needs to go—not just the city, but the site entrance and any access restrictions (like a load limit on the road or a low bridge).

In March 2024, I had a situation where a client needed a replacement hydraulic pump for an ASTEC asphalt plant within 72 hours for a resurfacing project in Nevada. I assumed the pump would go to their main yard. But I double-checked: the job was at a remote site 90 miles away.
